After a quiet few days on the recruiting front for LSU football, the Tigers received some good news Wednesday afternoon. LSU football currently sits at No. 5 nationally in the class of 2024 with one wide receiver committed. However, this could improve quickly as Mekhai White, an elite wide receiver target just included the Tigers in his top eight schools.

Elite wide receiver target Mekhai White includes LSU football in his top eight

When thinking about ideal size at the wide receiver position, Mekhai White just about fits the bill to perfection. Standing at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, White could turn into quite the redzone target at the next level with the height to leap over defenders for jump balls. In terms of current LSU football players, he has a very similar build to junior wide receiver Kyren Lacy.

Heā€™s currently rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 530 player nationally. Despite not being rated the highest, White has plenty of potential as an overall athlete, having played multiple positions in high school along with basketball.

LSU was listed in his top eight along with just two other SEC schools, Arkansas and Tennessee. Out of conference, the schools competing for his commitment are Oklahoma, Michigan, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Maryland.

The elite wide receiver out of Virginia recorded 37 receptions for 1,039 yards and 18 receiving touchdowns. The 18 touchdowns are particularly eye popping as it further emphasizes the redzone potential in him. If he can continue that kind of production at the next level, he could be a star for whichever team earns his commitment.

The state of LSU football class of 2024 wide receivers

As things stand, the only wide receiver committed to the LSU football class of 2024 is Joseph ā€œJoJoā€ Stone out of Georgia. Stone has been committed to the Tigers for almost almost a year now, making his decision in July of 2022.

Stone is an incredible athlete with elite ability to make defenders miss. Plenty of his usage in high school has come from screens in order to make use of his ability to gain yards after the catch. Heā€™s currently listed as the No. 38 wide receiver in the country and a four-star prospect. The only downside of him as a prospect is overall size, standing at just 5-foot-11, 180 pounds.

That size is exactly where Mekhai White could come into play for the LSU football class of 2024. If the Tigers are able to secure his commitment, not only would they have a yards after catch threat, but also a redzone threat.

While White would give the Tigers a wealth of options at the wide receiver position, heā€™s currently projected to Michigan. Still, if Brian Kelly can steal him from the Wolverines, it would be huge for the Tigers and the 2024 class as a whole.
