The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived. After a relatively slow start to recruiting transfers, LSU has now landed its second SEC transfer portal commitment of the day in former Mississippi State wide receiver Zavion Thomas.

LSU lands second SEC transfer portal commitment in wide receiver Zavion Thomas

Well, that didn’t take long at all. It’s been a busy day for LSU and the transfer portal, as things got started with starting defensive back Sage Ryan leaving the program this morning. Then, just hours later, the Tigers landed their first commitment of the cycle, as Jardin Gilbert elected to return home to Baton Rouge after three seasons with Texas A&M.

Now, again, just a couple more hours later, the Tigers have officially landed their second of the class of 2024, once again in the form of an SEC transfer portal commitment.

Former Mississippi State wide receiver Zavion Thomas is a player we’ve been keeping an eye on since the transfer portal first opened in early December. Now, he’s finally made it official, returning home to Louisiana.

Standing at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, the No. 67 player and No. 17 wide receiver in the portal has big play potential every time he touches the ball. In his two seasons with the Bulldogs, he’s totaled 93 touches for 1,188 yards and three touchdowns.

He should prove to be especially effective for the special teams unit. In 2022 as a freshman, he was named an FWAA Freshman All-American as a punt returner. Heading into 2024 for his junior season, look for the SEC transfer portal commitment to make an immediate impact in multiple phases of the game for LSU.
