We’re just months away from the conclusion of the class of 2024 recruiting cycle, and coach Brian Kelly has turned up the heat on several top recruits of late. One such player is five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley, who is currently committed to Texas A&M. With all of the changes going on in the Aggie program, LSU likely hopes to bring him back home to the Boot after today’s in-home visit in Lafayette.
LSU to conduct in-home visit with five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley
Many times when it comes to big-time recruiting battles, players like to begin things in-state before moving outwards. However, five-star defensive lineman elected for a slightly different plan of action.
While he did take three unofficial visits to campus from January to July of 2023, he’s yet to take an official to Baton Rouge. Instead, the No. 1 recruit in Louisiana spent his time visiting Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M.
Not long after his visit spree, he chose to leave home, travel west and commit to Texas A&M. However, after some significant coaching changes around College Station, there may be an opening for another program, and coach Brian Kelly is looking to make a move.
The Tigers have continued recruiting the Acadiana defensive lineman throughout the fall, but failed to get him back on campus at any point. Nevertheless, now that football season is over and the recruiting cycle is rapidly approaching its end, they were able to land an in-home visit with the five-star Louisiana recruit.
Today, LSU coaching staff members will travel over to Lafayette to visit McKinley, likely with the hopes of swaying him to take another visit to Baton Rouge.
The Tigers have a significant lacking of defensive line depth, and landing a big-time player like him would be a major step in the right direction. Interestingly enough, it wouldn’t be the first Texas A&M defensive line commit to flip over to the Tigers, as four-star Gabriel Reliford did exactly that just last week.
Look for the LSU football coaching staff to continue pushing hard for the No. 1 recruit in Louisiana up to the very end. Coach Kelly has placed a significant emphasis on keeping elite talent in-state, so if he manages to keep McKinley around, it could mean big things for the future of the Tiger program.
