Throughout the entire 2024 LSU football season, the Tigers have been no stranger to big-time recruiting weekends, and this Saturday is likely to be no different. Among the top recruits visiting Tiger Stadium for their matchup vs. Ole Miss includes five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham, who’s notably been committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide since this past July.

One of the least talked about aspects of any one college football season is the impact it can have on some of the top recruitments in the country.

On one hand, a terrible season can lead to a slew of decommitments, while on the other, a step up in level of play can just as easily boost your recruiting efforts towards landing a top commitment or two.

For coach Brian Kelly and LSU football, they’re hoping to see 2024 do the latter for their off-the-field efforts, and while it hasn’t been the most impressive so far, there’s plenty of football left to be played.

Among the remaining games include this weekend’s top-15 matchup between the No. 13 LSU Tigers and No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels, and understandably, the battle has drawn the eyes of plenty of top recruits. Among said recruits include that of five-star Alabama wide receiver commitment Caleb Cunningham, who most recently revealed that he will be in attendance in Tiger Stadium for the nationally broadcast game.

Rated as the No. 14 player overall, as well as the No. 1 player in the state of Mississippi, according to the 247Sports Composite, the Ackerman, MS, product is officially listed as a 6-foot-1, 190-pound pass catcher, and has held his five-star rating just about since the start of the class of 2025 rankings.

A multi-sport athlete for Choctaw County High School, Cunningham has impressed in both basketball and track and field, receiving state-wide recognition in both sports. Even so, football is clearly where he shines brightest, and his play on the field represents it perfectly.

Having recorded 124 receptions for 2,150 yards and 30 touchdowns in his first three seasons of high school football, the five-star wide receiver has always shown an ability to leave an impact, and specializes particularly as a red zone threat.

Since committing to Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide in July of this past summer, Cunningham has shown little to no signs of hesitation in regard to the strength of his commitment. Still, over the course of his entire recruitment, both LSU and Ole Miss have shown plenty of interest, which, if nothing else, proves interesting heading into this weekend’s matchup in Baton Rouge, LA.
