Coming off its third SEC win of the 2024 college football season, LSU football has continued its march up the ranks in the latest AP Poll, landing itself at No. 8 nationally, as well as No. 4 in-conference.

LSU football moves up to No. 8 nationally in this week’s college football AP Poll

Take things one day at a time, and it’s amazing what you can accomplish.

Starting the 2024 season with a tough loss against a confident USC program, things were not trending in a positive direction for LSU football. As if that weren’t bad enough, the Tigers have since endured several season ending injuries, multiple of which came from key starters such as defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory and linebacker Harold Perkins Jr.

With all of those things going wrong so early in the year, surely the purple and gold would be on their way to a disappointing year three under head coach Brian Kelly – right?

As it would turn out, that couldn’t have been further from the truth. Since dropping their first game of the 2024 season, LSU football has since gone on a six-game win streak, which includes three SEC victories, and a win over previously top-10 ranked Ole Miss.

In turn, with that rise in level of play – and win total – the Tigers have consistently found themselves rising inch-by-inch in the AP Poll, making it all the way up to No. 8 nationally after dropping as low as No. 18 in week two.

As we look ahead to week nine of the 2024 college football season, LSU is now one of nine SEC programs ranked in the AP top-25, which includes the likes of No. 2 Georgia (6-1), No. 5 Texas (6-1), No. 7 Tennessee (6-1), No. 14 Texas A&M (6-1), No. 15 Alabama (5-2), No. 18 Ole Miss (5-2), No. 21 Missouri (6-1) and No. 25 Vanderbilt (5-2).

Important to note, this is the highest the Tigers have been ranked during the 2024 season, and if they can hold strong through their remaining five games, Brian Kelly is solidly on pace to bring his team to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2020 when he was still with Notre Dame.

LSU football will next return to the football field in College Station, TX, as they get set to face off against the No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies in week nine. The matchup is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. CST, and will be available to watch live on ABC.
