The transfer portal continues to rage on, and we haven’t seen much movement as far as LSU bringing players in. With that said, there’s still plenty of time, and coach Brian Kelly has already expressed interest in being much more selective this cycle. Yesterday, it was reported by On3 that the Tigers are one of 27 programs in contact with top-100 North Texas transfer portal wide receiver Ja’Mori Maclin.

Transfer portal wide receiver Ja’Mori Maclin reportedly in contact with LSU football

The nickname of “Wide Receiver University” holds some serious weight when contacting some of the best pass catchers in the country. Over the years, LSU football has churned out some of the best talent at the position in the entire country.

Players like Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase are some of the hottest names out there. Only adding to the list, Brian Thomas Jr and Malik Nabers are likely heading to the NFL draft this coming offseason after their stellar 2023 seasons.

Still, all of that star power doesn’t just come from anywhere. You need to know what you’re scouting and bring players in who can turn potential into high-level play.

With coach Brian Kelly having already contacted a transfer portal wide receiver or two in the class of 2024, he clearly thinks a move needs to be made there. The most recent player in which they’ve contacted is top-100 former North Texas pass catcher Ja’Mori Maclin.

According to 247Sports, the transfer portal wide receiver from St. Louis, MO, ranks No. 95 nationally and No. 20 among wide receivers. The 5-foot-11, 183-pound player doesn’t exactly have next-level size, but he’s an excellent route runner with surprisingly good ball skills.

After recording 57 receptions for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2023, the three-star wide receiver has reportedly heard from several top programs, including Notre Dame, Oregon, Florida State, Washington, Oklahoma and Florida.
