After a disappointing 2023 season, LSU is finally beginning to move in the right direction on the defensive side of the ball. Today, LSU announced that they are bringing back former All-SEC nose tackle Bo Davis to be their 2024 defensive line coach.
LSU bringing Bo Davis back to Baton Rouge as the Tigers’ 2024 defensive line coach
It’s amazing how much can change in such a short period of time. Not even two weeks ago, Matt House was LSU’s defensive coordinator and the Tigers were giving up 31 points and 506 total yards against Wisconsin.
Now, as we look ahead to the 2024 college football season, coach Brian Kelly has committed to a complete overhaul of the defensive staff and it all started with new defensive coordinator Blake Baker on January 5.
Five days later, and the Tigers now have their 2024 defensive line coach. Today, LSU announced that former Texas defensive tackles coach Bo Davis will make his return to Baton Rouge.
After quite some time away from the program, Bo Davis is finally making his way back to the Tigers. A 1993 graduate of LSU, Davis was a former All-SEC nose tackle for the purple and gold. Furthermore, he has plenty of experience coaching in the area, having served as their strength and conditioning graduate assistant from 1995-97 and an assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2002-05.
Since leaving the program in the early 2000s, the newly hired 2024 defensive line coach has only bolstered his resume. After stints with both Alabama and Texas, Davis is one of the more well respected names when it comes to coaching the defensive line at the college level.
In 2023 alone, he helped lead the Texas defensive line to the No. 3 rushing defense in the country (82.4 yards per game), as well as the No. 2 allowed third down conversion percentage (25.7 percent).
With the veteran coach officially being hired, he’ll join defensive coordinator Blake Baker as the newest faces of the Tigers’ rebranded defensive coaching staff.
