As things stand, LSU is set to bring in nine new addition defensive backs for their class of 2024. However, they might not be done yet, as Alabama transfer portal cornerback Jameer Grimsley just revealed that LSU and Florida are his current top-two choices.
LSU battling SEC rival for transfer portal cornerback Jameer Grimsley
It’s not often you see a player elect to transfer just months after signing with a football program. However, this just so happens to be exactly the case with Alabama transfer portal cornerback Jameer Grimsley.
After initially committing to the Crimson Tide in July, the class of 2024 athlete ultimately signed in December. However, following the retirement of coach Nick Saban, the Tampa, FL, product had a change of heart and will now look for a new home.
Notably, despite just entering today, it appears he is already nearing a decision. On Thursday, the four-star recruit named Florida and LSU as his two choices.
Despite the transfer portal label, Grimsley will enter 2024 as a true freshman. As a part of the recruiting class of 2024, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound recruit ranks No. 240 nationally, according to 247Sports and No. 18 among cornerbacks.
Having played both wide receiver and cornerback in high school, his ball skills are exceptional. While still raw on the defensive side of the ball, it’s not hard to see the upside in his ability to force turnovers and battle opposing wide receivers downfield.
The former Alabama transfer portal cornerback also runs track in high school, posting a 10.84 second 100-meter dash, as well as a 21.79 200-meter in his junior year.
Jameer Grimsley made it clear that he’s unlikely to take any visits, and will instead look to make his final decision in the coming days as he prepares for his freshman season in 2024.
