Weā€™re only a matter of days away from the 2024 NFL combine, but the Tiger invitees are still flowing in for yet another combine of sorts. Most recently, LSU football punter Jay Bramblett earned an invitation to the NFL specialist showcase in early-March.

Punting was a rarity for the 2023 LSU football team

Possibly the most underrated player on the entire LSU roster is officially getting his shot at the highest level in football.

Tiger punter Jay Bramblett found himself in an odd position throughout the 2023 season. After transferring into the program just one year prior, the talented specialist punted the ball just 26 times in his second season with the program.

This was by far a career low for him, but it wasnā€™t necessarily due to a fault of his own. He wasnā€™t injured, and it certainly wasnā€™t that coach Brian Kelly didnā€™t trust him. Instead, the purple and gold offense was simply too good.

Just about every time quarterback Jayden Daniels stepped foot on the field, it almost felt like they were guaranteed to score. In many ways, this was largely true, as the team led the country in scoring, totaling an average of 45.4 per game.

Unfortunately, this saw a lack of reps for punter Jay Bramblett, which in turn meant that he didnā€™t exactly have much opportunity to show what he was made of.

However, ahead of the fast-approaching 2024 NFL combine, it appears that the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish will get one more chance to put his ability on display.

2024 NFL combine: LSU punter Jay Bramblett earns invite for specialist showcase

Earning a combine invite as a specialist is one of the harder things to do in football. In fact, when the full list came out earlier this month, only four kickers were included on the list, compared to just two punters.

The punters included were more than deserving, as Tory Taylor of Iowa and Ryan Rehkow of BYU kicked the ball a total of 161 times, averaging 48.2 yards per punt.

Unfortunately, at the time, this happened to mean that LSU punter Jay Bramblett was one of the many quality specialists left off of the list. Still, not all hope is lost, as the NFL will now host a specialist showcase from March 2 until March 4 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN.

For Bramblett ā€“ a product out of Tuscaloosa, AL ā€“ earning the invite is big for obvious reasons. Heā€™ll have an excellent opportunity to not only show off his ability to kick the ball, but heā€™ll also likely get to show off any and all athleticism heā€™s developed over these last five years of college football.

After averaging 42.1 yards per punt over the course of his career ā€“ 31 percent of which were dropped within the 20-yard line ā€“ the LSU punter has some of the best leg talent in the entire country. Now, with his recent invite, he has the chance to show it in front of some of the best scouts in the country.
