LSU defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo declares for the 2024 NFL draft
While he may not have started his career with the purple and gold, thereās no doubt LSU defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo has officially won over the hearts of Tiger fans.
After electing to stay close to home and play for Missouri, the St. Louis, MO, native elected for a change of pace and transferred south to Baton Rouge. As it turns out, this may have been the perfect move.
After just three seasons at the collegiate level, the 6-foot-1, 295-pound defensive lineman has his eyes set on the future and has officially declared for the 2024 NFL draft.
Since 2021, Wingo has proven to be one of the more consistent players in the country, recording 95 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, four passes defended, one forced fumble and an interception. In essence, he did pretty much everything for his team.
However, heāll now look to continue that consistency at the next level.
This is a major loss for the Tigers heading into 2024, but an understandable one with his upside as an NFL prospect. Looking ahead to next season, expect players such as Maason Smith, Jacobian Guillory and newly committed class of 2024 recruit Dominick McKinley to step up in his absence.
