Just one day following the Tiger ReliaQuest Bowl victory over Wisconsin on Monday, coach Brian Kelly’s squad received some less than ideal news. Today, former five-star offensive lineman Lance Heard announced his decision to leave LSU and enter the transfer portal.

Coming in as one of the top offensive linemen in the country and the top overall recruit for the Tigers, former five-star offensive lineman Lance Heard has officially entered his name into the transfer portal.

As a part of the class of 2023, few players had higher expectations than the Monroe, LA, native. He ranked No. 16 nationally and No. 3 among offensive tackles. Now, heading into his sophomore year, he’ll look for a new home after not making the trip to Tampa for the LSU bowl game vs. Wisconsin.

With this former five-star offensive lineman loss, a potential starting spot has likely opened up in the future. Luckily for Tiger fans, coach Brian Kelly has placed a significant emphasis on offensive line recruiting, so they have no shortage of depth at the moment.

The starting spots are likely all solidified with Emery Jones Jr and Will Campbell set to return in 2024. Additionally, in the last three classes combined, the LSU has signed 15 offensive linemen overall. While the loss of a former five-star is never good, the purple and gold should be set as far as potential replacements go.
