Coming off an impressive, and much-needed 34-10 victory over Arkansas this past weekend, LSU football coach Brian Kelly elected to take one final shot at the Razorbacks, this time over the scheduling of their 2024 homecoming game.
LSU coach Brian Kelly doesn’t hold back following victory over Arkansas during the Razorback’s homecoming
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Coming off their sixth win in a row, and their third against SEC competition this season, it’s safe to say that the LSU football program is feeling pretty good about the way things are trending right now.
From the players, to the fanbase, all the way up to the coaching staff, confidence has likely reached its 2024 season high, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the rest of the country feels the same.
Over the offseason, Arkansas had the task of scheduling their 2024 homecoming game, and in a bit of a curious decision, they elected to go with the Bayou Bengals as their choice of matchup.
On the surface, this doesn’t feel like too big of a deal. However, when you add in the context that it’s generally tradition to schedule a largely winnable game for your homecoming, it shouldn’t come off as too much of a surprise that the Tigers took this one personally.
In turn, the journey up to Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium quickly turned into something of a business trip, and any thoughts of a potential upset by the home team were quickly shut down, as the purple and gold came away with a decisive 34-10 victory on the road.
For some, coming away with the win over SEC-foe Arkansas would have been more than enough for one day’s work. However, for LSU coach Brian Kelly, he clearly wasn’t satisfied yet, and had something to get off his chest in the postgame press conference.
“Now we’ve gotta go do it again against a really good Texas A&M team at their place. I know this was homecoming. I’m sure they’ll schedule homecoming next week there against us too. It just seems like we get everybody’s homecoming. So, maybe next year they’ll think about maybe not making us homecoming anymore.”
Important to note, as the Tigers make their way over to College Station, TX, for their matchup against Texas A&M later this week, it will not, in fact, be their homecoming game, but the sentiment stands for the Tiger head coach.
While the Razorbacks likely didn’t expect Kelly to be quite this offended by their scheduling, we now know at least one thing to be certain. If your favorite team ever happens to schedule their homecoming game on the same week that Kelly and his football program are coming to town, it might be a good idea for them to reschedule things before it’s too late.
