The LSU football offense received yet another big-time upgrade to its future roster, as Louisiana-based Florida State wide receiver Destyn Hill will officially make his way back home to the Boot, announcing his transfer portal commitment Tuesday morning.
Louisiana-based wide receiver Destyn Hill to make move from Florida State to LSU
One of the top trends of last year’s transfer portal for Brian Kelly was the idea of bringing Louisiana products back in-state. From depth safety Austin Ausberry to star return man Zavion Thomas, three of the nine portal additions during the 2024 offseason involved players making their return to the Boot.
In contrast, the 2025 period has gone a little differently for the purple and gold. They’ve snagged commitments from a couple players from Maryland, a couple from Alabama, a couple from Florida and even one from Tennessee. Still, it was only a matter of time until a player decided to come back home, and that’s exactly what happened Tuesday morning, as former Florida State wide receiver Destyn Hill has officially announced his decision to play for LSU during the 2025 season.
A product out of New Orleans, LA, Hill came out of high school as a four-star recruit in the class of 2021, according to 247Sports, standing at 6-foot, 193 pounds. Unfortunately for the former Edna Karr star pass catcher, he didn’t exactly take the normal track for a blue chip recruit.
Recording just six receptions, for 87 yards and zero touchdowns in 10 game appearances, Hill was never a consistent impact player in Tallahassee, but when he had an opportunity, he always seemed to make the most of it, pulling off multiple circus catches during his time with the Seminoles.
Important to keep in mind, is the fact that Destyn Hill – despite initially committing to Mike Norvell and the Seminoles as a part of their class of 2021 – still has three years of eligibility remaining, as he didn’t officially enroll at Florida State until 2023, and spent the 2024 season sidelined with an injury.
What this means, is LSU has officially landed a high-potential pass catcher with years of development available to him. Add in the fact that this is something of a homecoming for him, and he’s coming off an injury, he likely won’t see the field a ton in 2025, but can instead spend that time learning the playbook and getting ready to make an impact for his redshirt junior season in 2026.
The Tiger transfer portal class of 2025 is officially up to No. 2 nationally, and No. 2 in the SEC, with eight total commitments. Wide receiver Barion Brown currently leads the group as the No. 19 player currently in the portal, and with the expectation that Brian Kelly could take a third pass catcher before things are all said and done, this December transfer portal period is only just getting started for the purple and gold.
