After battling South Carolina for the past few days, LSU football has officially landed a big-time commitment from Vanderbilt veteran transfer portal quarterback AJ Swann.

While LSU wasn’t necessarily desperate for a quarterback in this year’s transfer portal, there was definitely some concern. As things stood earlier today, the Tigers had just three signal callers on scholarship heading into 2024, two of which are yet to see much collegiate game action.

However, any Tiger fans who were concerned about the quarterback situation can now rest easy. This evening, coach Brian Kelly and LSU landed an elite commitment from former Vanderbilt star and veteran transfer portal quarterback AJ Swann.

According to 247Sports, Swann ranks as the No. 126 player nationally among transfers and No. 24 among quarterbacks. Despite entering just his third season of college football next year, he has significant experience and brings an immediate veteran presence to the position room.

Over the last two seasons, the Canton, GA, native has thrown the ball 394 times for 2,731 yards and 22 touchdowns, compared to just nine interceptions.

Boasting some impressive touch to his passes and ability to move around the pocket with ease, he could prove to be one of the more underrated transfers of the cycle.

While redshirt sophomore Garrett Nussmeier should still be viewed as the 2024 starter, Swann fills some much needed depth at one of the most important positions in football. Looking ahead to 2025, if the former three-star recruit continues to develop, we very well could be looking at the future starting LSU quarterback with today’s commitment.
