After a string of big-time recruiting news at the guard position, LSU basketball is now starting to take a look at some of the top forwards in the country. As of yesterday, California-based small forward Jasir Rencher is reportedly scheduled to take an official visit to Baton Rouge this coming October.
Blue chip small forward Jasir Rencher is expected to take fall official visit with LSU basketball
When it comes to building a college basketball program, balance in roster construction is often one of the more overlooked aspects, but it’s also one of the most important. When it comes to coach Matt McMahon, it’s hard to deny the fact that he’s primarily known for his prowess with the guard position, but lucky for Tiger fans, this hasn’t exactly stopped him from landing a big-time forward/center prospect from time to time.
In the 2024 recruiting cycle, the purple and gold head coach landed just two non-guards in rising freshman power forward Robert Miller and JUCO transfer center Noah Boyde. In turn, it’d be wise to expect him to go after a few more big men in the class of 2025, and he already appears to be doing just that.
With months remaining until college basketball official visit season, the Tigers have already landed a scheduled visit with California-based small forward Jasir Rencher, who’s expected to make his way to Baton Rouge on October 12, according to Joe Tipton of On3.
Rated as the No. 88 player nationally, according to 247Sports, as well as the No. 9 player out of California, Rencher isn’t necessarily the biggest small forward out there, but his overall athleticism and strength around the rim allows him to compete among even the tallest of defenders.
Officially listed at 6-foot-5, 195 pounds, the San Francisco, CA product is primarily known for his ability to rise up high and score around the rim, but his passing and shooting ability deserves some praise as well.
Along with the purple and gold, Rencher has received interest from several other high-level programs including Illinois, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and UNLV, and will also visit Oklahoma (September 7) and Washington (October 5) later this fall.
