LSU basketball has found some serious momentum on the recruiting trail of late. More specifically, theyāve found success through the transfer portal. Still, the momentum seems to be transitioning to high school recruiting as the Tigers crack the top eight for elite small forward prospect Karter Knox.
LSU basketball is a finalist for elite small forward Karter Knox
LSU basketball is in a weird position right now. On one hand, they have plenty of talent on roster. On the other, most of their major pieces are brand new and could need some time to blend as a team.
Ultimately, this issue is largely caused by the heavy rebuild over the past two off-seasons. The way to counter this is by putting some emphasis on high school recruiting. If you lean into the young guys a bit more, it helps build a team and, more importantly, a future.
Thatās precisely why itās so important for coach Matt McMahon and the LSU basketball team to stay in the mix for some of the top prospects in the country. Most recently, the Tigers made the top eight for elite small forward Karter Knox.
Knox is ranked the No. 8 recruit nationally, the No. 2 small forward and the No. 2 player out of Florida. Heās an elite high school prospect and likely has NBA aspirations. His brother, Kevin Knox, was a former first-rounder in 2018, and Karter probably wants to follow suit.
The current state of the Tigersā class of 2024
Thereās nowhere to go but up for the LSU basketball 2024 recruiting class. For now, the Tigers have just one commitment, bringing the class to No. 36 nationally.
Their one commitment came from small forward Devon Pryor, rated as a three-star prospect according to 247Sports. Pryor committed to the Tigers on May 9, 2023, over programs such as Texas A&M and Oklahoma State. His family is full of noted LSU fans, so it didnāt come as too much of a surprise when he committed.
Pryor is a long, smooth athlete with a fantastic frame at 6-foot-7, 180 pounds. If he can fill out his frame over the next year or two, he should continue to rise in the rankings, as he already has a fairly elite skill set.
Itās still early, so thereās no reason to worry too much about the lack of commitments. If anything, the fact that McMahon already has one commitment in the class is plenty of reason to be excited about the future of LSU basketball.
