The year 2024 is officially right around the corner! The LSU baseball season is set to begin in February, and as of this afternoon, we have an official schedule for your Fighting Tigers. It’s a bit of a gauntlet, but it’s nothing the reigning national championship winners and coach Jay Johnson can’t handle.
LSU baseball releases complete 2024 schedule
This past season was a dream for fans of LSU baseball. Coach Jay Johnson entered just his second season with the program, and he had one thing on his mind: a national championship.
Well, as we all know, at this point, he accomplished just that, and now there’s a massive target on their back. Everyone will be coming after the program, hoping to take them down this coming season.
Now, we have a complete idea of who the Tigers will be facing, as the official LSU baseball Twitter account released their schedule.
Notable matchups
There’s little doubt that LSU baseball will be favored in most matchups this season. After all, they won the national championship in 2023 and bring back plenty of talent.
However, that’s not to say there aren’t plenty of challengers. Among said challengers are annual SEC powers Florida and Vanderbilt. Similarly to LSU, Those are two programs that consistently put out elite programs, so there’s no doubt they’ll put up a fight.
Furthermore, the Tigers will take on several in-state opponents, as is the case most seasons. Among them are UL Lafayette, UL Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, McNeese, New Orleans, Nicholls, Grambling State and Northwestern State.
While most of those matchups shouldn’t be too tricky, last season proved that isn’t always the case. In 2023, the Tigers had more than their fair share of slipups, including against opponents such as UL Lafayette and Nicholls.
LSU baseball is set to begin its 2024 campaign on Friday, February 16, vs. VMI at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.
