Baseball season is just around the corner, and that means itโ€™s time for some preseason projections! Earlier today, Perfect Game listed LSU baseball pitcher Cam Johnson as the top freshman heading into the 2024 season.

Coming off a national championship in 2023, LSU is already on top of the college baseball world. Add in the fact that they just had the top-two MLB draft picks and brought in one of the best recruiting classes this year, itโ€™s the epitome of the rich getting richer.

The Tigers brought in several of the top players in the class of 2023, including outfielder Ashton Larson from Kansas, in-state left handed pitcher Jake Brown and shortstop Steven Milam out of New Mexico.

However, the top player in the group is likely LSU baseball pitcher Cam Johnson, who was recently ranked as the top freshman in the country by Perfect Game.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, Johnson projects to make an immediate impact with the Tigers. Ranking No. 11 nationally in the class of 2023, he has the kind of talent to take over a game if given the chance.

Notably, the talented freshman out of Bradenton, FL, was drafted in the 20th round of the 2023 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, but still elected to make his way to Baton Rouge for his freshman season.

Several top pitchers left the program following their national championship run, including stars Paul Skenes, Riley Cooper and Ty Floyd. If Cam Johnson continues to progress as he has, expect him to find an early spot in the pitching rotation throughout the upcoming 2024 season as coach Jay Johnson and the Tigers look to put together a repeat of last yearโ€™s performance.
