After going on to win the national championship, 2023 was a dream season for coach Jay Johnson and LSU baseball. Now as we look ahead to the upcoming season, they’re hoping to go back-to-back, as DraftKings currently has the Tigers with the second best odds to win the 2024 College World Series.
LSU opens with second best odds to win 2024 College World Series
It’s hard enough to go out and win the national championship in baseball. As a matter of fact, since first being introduced in 1893, LSU has won just seven championships in the sport, including last year’s dream run in year two under coach Jay Johnson.
Going back-to-back? Well, that’s a completely different animal.
Still, while the odds aren’t necessarily in favor of the purple and gold, it most certainly doesn’t look impossible. Today, DraftKings released their odds for the 2024 College World Series winner, and right up near the top are the Tigers.
With current odds sitting right around +750 for the Tigers, according to DraftKings, only one team is above them, as Wake Forest is +700.
In case you were wondering, it’s once again looking like it will be a dominant season for the SEC, as behind LSU, five out of the next six are all in-conference foes.
Florida is third (+900), with Arkansas (+1000), Tennessee (+1400), Vanderbilt (+1600), TCU (+2000) and Texas A&M (+2200) following.
One of the biggest faults people find in this year’s LSU baseball team is the significant amount of talent that left for the MLB last season. While replacing the No. 1 (pitcher Paul Skenes) and No. 2 (outfielder Dylan Crews) overall draft picks is never an easy task, the Tigers retained plenty of talent to go along with one of the best recruiting/transfer portal classes in the country.
In last year’s run to a championship victory, the purple and gold managed to take down Tulane, Oregon State, Kentucky, Tennessee, Wake Forest and Florida.
LSU baseball will get their season going in less than a month, as they’ll welcome VMI to Alex Box Stadium on Friday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. CST.
