Another day, another transfer portal commitment for coach Jay Johnson and the Tigers. After landing right-handed relief pitcher Chandler Dorsey just yesterday, LSU baseball has just made it two days in a row thanks to former Indiana State catcher Luis Hernandez.
LSU baseball receives yet another transfer commitment in former Indiana State catcher Luis Hernandez
Over these last two seasons, LSU baseball has become known for their work with the bat in hand, thanks in large part to elite sluggers such as third baseman Tommy White, whoâs more than likely headed to the MLB draft this offseason.
Unfortunately, with the loss of White, many had concerns about coach Jay Johnsonâs squad and their ability to keep up their elite offensive numbers. With that said, itâs about time for fans to let their worries disappear, as the Tiger head coach has once again gone into the transfer portal and come away with yet another elite commitment.
Earlier today, the purple and gold received some excellent news, as big-time Indiana State catcher Luis Hernandez will make his way to Baton Rouge, LA, for his senior season in 2025.
Having played for the Sycamores each of the last three seasons, Hernandez hasnât exactly had the platform to create a name for himself. Even so, if he can continue to swing the bat like he did this past season, he has the potential to become an immediate fan favorite for Tiger fans all over the world.
In 2024, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound slugger put up some big-time numbers, recording 89 hits, 76 RBIs and 23 home runs, all while logging a career high .359 batting average and 1.114 OPS. In short, he swings the bat at an efficient rate and is a threat to knock one out of the park just about each time he steps up to the plate.
While LSU baseball is still waiting on decisions from several of their star players on whether theyâll stay another season or leave for the next level, pairing Hernandez up with fellow slugger Jared Jones and elite rising sophomore Steven Milam is certainly an exciting prospect to think about.
Thereâs still plenty of offseason to go for coach Jay Johnson and the purple and gold, but with two transfer portal additions committed already, things are at the very least trending in a positive direction as we slowly move ahead to next season.
