āDBUā is so back. Last year, the Tigers, widely known as āDBU,ā took a bit of a break from the title in 2022, but it appears that Brian Kelly is looking to return to that reputation. With Denver Harris and other big-name cornerbacks on roster, some five-star talent is beginning to take notice. Most recently, class of 2025 cornerback Devin Sanchez was particularly impressed by LSU football.
Five-star class of 2025 cornerback Devin Sanchez impressed by LSU football
LSU football just received their seventh DB commitment of the class of 2024 on Sunday. Unsurprisingly, coach Brian Kelly isnāt satisfied and appears poised to do something similar for the class of 2025.
Kelly is already making a solid push at two of the best cornerbacks in the class of 2025, Jaboree Antoine and Devin Sanchez. Sanchez, in particular, seems to have a good impression of LSU football early in his recruitment.
Sanchez is listed as the No. 6 player nationally and the No. 1 cornerback. Add in the fact that he already stands at 6-foot-2, having just finished up his sophomore year of high school, and it becomes clear why heās ranked so high.
According to 247 Sports, Sanchezās former teammate Denver Harris is playing a large part in his early impression of LSU. Harris began his career at Texas A&M but transferred to Baton Rouge following his freshman season.
Now, as Devin Sanchez watches Harrisās career unfold, heās been impressed with the improvement heās made since joining the LSU football program.Ā In an interview with 247 Sports, Sanchez was quoted saying,Ā ā(Coach Roberts Steeples) is a real dude. Heās got my boy Denver Harris down there. When I went down there and I saw the way they had Denver, he just looked different from what he did in high school.ā
Coach Robert Steeles joined the LSU football coaching staff before the 2022 season. The St. Louis, MO native was hired as the cornerbacksā coach and has made an early impact. Even more notably, heās made an early impact on both recruiting and coaching aspects.
Other class of 2025 cornerback targets for the Tigers
Having just about completed their class of 2024 defensive back class, eyes begin to shift to the class of 2025. Early on, things are looking excellent for the Tigers.
Having placed a significant emphasis on quantity in 2024, Kelly is making a shift towards quality for 2025. For instance, two of their top cornerback targets early on are five-stars Devin Sanchez and Jaboree Antoine.
In addition to those two elite talents, the Tigers already have one cornerback commitment for the class with Jaylen Bell. Standing at 5-foot-11, 150 pounds, he doesnāt necessarily have elite size, per se. Still, his excellent ball skills and intelligence help to make him one of the best in the country.
If the Tigers can land two or three elite cornerbacks in the class of 2025, they should be in excellent shape. Brian Kelly has handled this defensive back room like an expert. And that, right there, is precisely why he gets paid the big bucks!
