We’ve officially reached game day, which means it’s time for our final LSU football injury report vs. Arkansas. Earlier this week, coach Brian Kelly gave several updates on players, including Ovie Oghoufo, Omar Speights and Mason Taylor.

LSU football injury report vs. Arkansas

Probable

  • Sophomore TE Mason Taylor
  • Senior EDGE Ovie Oghoufo

After being sidelined in week three, both tight end Mason Taylor and edge rusher Ovie Oghoufo are expected to return to the field.

Taylor suffered a lower-body injury vs. Grambling State, forcing him to miss a good chunk of week two and all of week three. In his absence, the Tigers’ slew of freshman tight ends stepped up, but the presence of the stud sophomore was certainly missed.

Oghoufo also missed week three due to a lower-body injury and will likely return to the field today. In his absence, several edge rushers stepped up significantly, including fellow transfer Bradyn Swinson, among others.

The veteran presence of both players could be big for the LSU football team vs. Arkansas in what could be quite a physical game.

Doubtful

  • Senior LB Omar Speights

For the second week in a row, senior linebacker Omar Speights is likely to be sitting out on the sideline. Initially, coach Brian Kelly thought there was a chance he could be back ready to go, but downgraded him to “doubtful” following Thursday’s practice.

If Speights does end up sitting this one out, we’ll likely see quite a bit more of freshman linebacker Whit Weeks again. Last week vs. Mississippi State, the freshman was a pleasant surprise, leading the team in tackles with eight.

It’s also notable to mention that senior safety Greg Brooks Jr will be out again this week after receiving emergency surgery last week to remove a “large brain tumor.”

With multiple impact veteran defenders (Omar Speights, Greg Brooks Jr) out this week, it will be important to watch for the young pieces vs. Arkansas. The Tigers will likely be relying heavily on some freshmen and sophomores. We’ll just have to wait and see if they’re ready for the moment.
