While it took a little less than a week, LSU football has officially landed its first commitment of the 2025 transfer portal window, as former Oklahoma and Southeastern tight end Bauer Sharp will officially make his way to Baton Rouge, LA for next college football season.

It was a slow start to the 2025 transfer portal for coach Brian Kelly and LSU football. Within just days, the Tigers immediately lost 15 players to what has now come to be known as college football’s free agency, and momentum was clearly not on the side of the purple and gold.

Even so, this wasn’t exactly reason for panic within the program. According to Brian Kelly, most of the transfer portal losses were expected, and it was still largely known that LSU had big plans for making improvements to their roster during this period.

“We’ll be very aggressive,” the Tiger head coach said to the media late November“I think everybody that’s followed us knows that we weren’t very aggressive in the transfer portal [last year]. We put together a defensive line using minimal resources. We’ve really put ourselves in a position – and I’ll use this term loosely – to stay well under the ‘cap,’ so we could be quite aggressive this year, and we will be very aggressive in that area.”

Well, as it would turn out, all the program needed was a little bit of time, as their class of 2025 transfer portal class has officially landed its first commitment, in Oklahoma tight end Bauer Sharp.

Coming out of high school as an unrated, 6-foot-4, 243-pound tight end from Dothan, AL, Sharp struggled to gain traction early on. Spending his first three years with Southeastern Louisiana, the now veteran pass catcher recorded 40 receptions for 366 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 9.2 yards per reception as a part of the Lion football program.

From there, he’d finally get his shot at the FBS, transferring over to Oklahoma ahead of the 2024 football season, and as it turned out, his production wasn’t solely reserved for the FCS level. In his first season competing in the SEC, the talented tight end ended up logging a career-high 42 receptions for 324 yards and two touchdowns, making an immediate impact, even despite his lack of high-level experience.

Now, just one year later, he’s elected for a change of pace, and will officially make his way over to Baton Rouge, LA, to catch passes from star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier in the purple and gold.

Sharp is officially the first to commit to the LSU transfer class of 2025, but likely won’t be the last after the Tigers lost double-digit players to the portal over the last week or so.

The Oklahoma transfer will now join a tight end room that includes minimal scholarship players, as he’ll compete against true sophomore Trey’Dez Green and incoming freshman JD LaFleur for snaps. He’ll have just one year of eligibility remaining.
