As coach Brian Kelly prepares his group for their season opener vs. USC in Las Vegas, NV, top LSU commitment and elite five-star cornerback DJ Pickett will instead be making his way to SEC foe Florida for their season opener vs. Miami.
Five-star LSU commitment DJ Pickett is expected to be on campus for Florida-Miami this weekend
One of the top Tiger pledges for the class of 2025 and elite five-star cornerback DJ Pickett is making a trip this weekend, but it won’t be to Baton Rouge.
While coach Brian Kelly and his squad are set to make their way out west to Las Vegas, NV, for their matchup against the USC Trojans this weekend, Pickett will instead be exploring his own home state, watching Florida vs. Miami in Gainesville, FL.
Initially, this felt like a blast to the past when former LSU commitment Jaboree Antoine took a series of visits, eventually leading to his decommitment and flip over to the Miami Hurricanes class of 2025. However, it appears that Tiger fans have very little to worry about, and instead, this might be more of a family trip than anything else.
According to Shea Dixon of On3, Pickett will be visiting the big-time Florida-based matchup as a means of watching his cousin – Booker Pickett Jr – compete in his freshman year debut with the Hurricanes.
Future visits to LSU could be on the horizon for Pickett
While it’s never ideal to see a current commitment to your program visiting another campus, it doesn’t appear that this is a majorly threatening visit. Along with the fact that he’s taking a trip to see his cousin, Dixon also reported that the five-star cornerback will be visiting Baton Rouge, LA, in the very near future, as his father explained that Tiger Stadium is high up on the list for their next trip.
Officially listed as a lengthy 6-foot-4, 179-pound cornerback out of Zephyrhills, FL, Pickett currently rates as the second highest LSU commitment for the class of 2025, sitting at No. 3 nationally, according to On3, just behind quarterback Bryce Underwood who’s found himself at No. 1.
He also happens to be one of three five-star pledges for the program, with running back Harlem Berry and wide receiver Derek Meadows each having earned that fifth star on different recruiting websites.
The purple and gold class of 2025 currently ranks No. 3 nationally, as well as No. 2 in the SEC with 25 total commitments. While it’s unlikely that the coaching staff is done quite yet, the group may be slowly approaching it’s final form with national signing day just a few short months away.
