When you think of LSU football, what do you think of? For many, the answer is almost always DBU (Defensive Back University). Historically, this program has been built around elite defensive back play. However, players like Harold Perkins Jr and Maason Smith are back and projected to lead the way for the Tigers this coming season. It may even ring true into the near future as Brian Kelly continues to go after players like class of 2024Ā elite defensive line recruitĀ LJ McCray, who recently included LSU football in his top-11 schools.

LSU football makes top-11 for elite defensive line recruit LJ McCray

LJ McCray, the No. 22 player out of Florida, is currently listed as a four-star recruit. On Saturday afternoon, he released his top-11 schools, which included six SEC schools, four ACC schools and one Big Ten school. Among them were none other than the LSU Tigers.

The 6-foot-6, 260-pound prospect has the size and skill to be a star at the next level. Listed as the No. 136 player nationally and No. 16 defensive lineman in the class of 2024, expectations are bound to be high for the four-star.

Not only does he play defensive line, but heā€™s also talented on offense, scoring three receiving touchdowns in 2022. He even plays some basketball! In todayā€™s world, itā€™s hard to find that kind of athleticism and overall flexibility in a prospect. With some time to work on the small details, he could turn into a major star at the college level. Not to mention, he has the body to make it as an NFL player as well.

As things stand, Florida and Florida State are considered the favorites in his recruitment according to On3. Despite McCray looking to stay close to home, donā€™t count the Tigers out quite yet. Brian Kelly is an elite coach who is ready to compete for championships in Baton Rouge. For those reasons alone, LJ McCray would be wise to at least give LSU football a strong look.
