It was the eighth defensive play of the 2022 season for LSU football. Maason Smith was getting ready to have a monster sophomore season coming off a four-sack season in 2021. Then, it all went away in an instant when he experienced a freak lower-body injury on a celebration versus Florida State. However, after a long season of getting healthy, defensive lineman Maason Smith is recovered and is ready to go for 2023.

Defensive lineman Maason Smith is ready for a dominant junior season in 2023

Heading into his freshman season in 2021, defensive lineman Maason Smith had all the hype in the world. He was listed as the No. 31 overall player and the No. 7 defensive lineman in the class of 2021. He also came in as the No. 1 player and the only five-star recruit out of Louisiana.

While he didn’t necessarily take over the SEC as a first-year in 2021, he showed flashes that gave LSU football fans plenty of reason to be excited about his future. That’s why it was so heartbreaking when he got injured in the very first game of the 2022 season. Still, that’s all in the past, and defensive lineman Maason Smith appears to be all healthy once again. This afternoon, he took to Instagram to update fans on his recovery.

While his sophomore campaign didn’t quite go as planned, Smith appears ready to break out for his junior season. Unfortunately for Tiger fans, this season might be their final chance to watch him in the purple and gold. Already, he has the potential to be a high draft pick in 2024. He has NFL size and athleticism; plenty of franchises are bound to fall in love with him as a prospect.

Still, regardless of how long he’ll be in Baton Rouge, LSU football fans have plenty to be excited about when it comes to Maason Smith. He could easily be one of the best in the country in 2023, and the LSU fanbase is thrilled to have him back.
