Last week, LSU football climbed its way all the way up to No. 14 overall in the first College Football Playoff ranking of the year. While they took a dip following the loss to SEC foe Alabama, coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers are still respected, landing at No. 19 today.

LSU football remains ranked in top-20 of this week’s College Football Playoff ranking

LSU football suffered its third loss of the season last week, as the Tigers fell to No. 8 Alabama 42-28 in Tuscaloosa.

While it’s never ideal to have three losses on your record, it’s notable to look at who the losses came against. In order, they dropped games to No. 4 Florida State, No. 9 Ole Miss and now No. 8 Alabama.

With all three coming against top-10 teams, it’s clear that the College Football Playoff committee respects the Tigers still, ranking them No. 19 in this week’s edition.

Furthermore, coach Brian Kelly and LSU football was the highest ranked of all three-loss teams in the country. Along with the Tigers, No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 21 Arizona, and No. 25 Kansas State all have three blemishes on their record.

The purple and gold are also one of six programs in the SEC ranked in the top 25. Once again, it’s clear that it remains one of the top conferences in college football, likely assisting in the high ranking of so many of their teams.

However, with their loss on Saturday and significant drop this week, the Tigers are as good as eliminated from contention for the College Football Playoff. With that said, the season is nowhere near over, and LSU football is currently in the midst of preparing for Florida later this week.
