One of the biggest surprises of the early portion of the season was LSU football linebacker Whit Weeks and his high level of play. However, we haven’t seen much of him since the week eight matchup vs. Army, and many fans had concerns regarding his whereabouts. Earlier today, coach Brian Kelly gave an update on the freshman and when we can expect to see him next.
LSU football linebacker Whit Weeks hasn’t seen the field in weeks
Generally, in the world of college football, you want to play your best players and allow them to make things happen on the field. LSU football linebacker Whit Weeks was exactly that for the early parts of the season. Through six weeks, he was the fourth leading tackler on the team, with 35 tackles and three tackles for loss.
However, we haven’t seen much from him since then, as he’s recorded just four total tackles in his last two appearances. For many fans, this raised some eyebrows. The defense had been showing solid improvement with his speed and high motor on the field.
It was confusing, to say the least, especially considering he wasn’t on any of the injury reports this season. However, at today’s media availability, coach Brian Kelly finally had the opportunity to explain why he hadn’t seen the field in some time.
Coach Brian Kelly gives an update on the star freshman
“He’s been injured. Yeah, he’s been injured. He had an accident that left a nasty gash in his foot, and he wasn’t able to play at the highest level,” coach Kelly explained when asked about the absence of LSU football linebacker Whit Weeks.
“We could probably have gotten him in the Georgia State game,” the head coach continued. “That was my decision not to play him. I did not want to put him in a game where he pops two or three of those stitches, and then we didn’t have him for A&M. We’re gonna need him this weekend.”
With this little tidbit, it’s important to note the last thing he said. Coach Brian Kelly understands just how vital the star freshman is to the defense, and it sounds as though we will see him this weekend for Texas A&M.
The Aggies, despite their slightly disappointing season in 2023, are a good football team and cause plenty of issues. The Tigers will need to put their best foot forward, and Weeks will likely play a significant role in that.
The head coach finished his report on the stud freshman by saying, “Those stitches are out. He’s full go. Time to play.”
LSU football vs. Texas A&M will take place this weekend for an early morning kickoff at 11:00 a.m. CST in Tiger Stadium. Keep an eye out for LSU football linebacker Whit Weeks as he looks to finish out his stellar freshman campaign.
