Coach Jay Johnson strikes again. After a relatively slow start to the month of July, LSU baseball has now landed their 10th transfer portal commitment, as Utah Valley infielder Daniel Dickinson is officially a Tiger.
LSU baseball lands yet another incredibly high upside transfer portal commitment
At this point it’s become abundantly clear that coach Jay Johnson went into this offseason on a mission, and he’s not leaving any doubts along the way.
The Tiger head coach got off to a blazing start in the 2024 transfer portal, immediately adding a handful of elite arm talent to bolster his pitching room. As if that weren’t enough, he’s quickly created one of the potentially deepest lineups in all of college baseball heading into the 2025 offseason.
It even started to look as though things were finally starting to slow down after landing right-handed pitcher Jacob Mayers on June 23, but now that we’re just over two weeks into the month of July, the portal king is impressively still going strong.
In the last week alone, LSU baseball has brought in two additional transfer portal commitments. Incarnate Word outfielder Dalton Beck was first to pull the trigger on July 3, while Utah Valley infielder Daniel Dickinson most recently elected to join the party – both of which add impressive consistency from within the batter’s box.
Having batted .369 over the course of his two year career, while adding 90 hits, 18 home runs and 53 RBIs this past season alone, the talented infielder has quickly turned himself into one of the more highly sought-after prospects for the 2025 MLB Draft once he eventually becomes eligible.
Standing at 6-foot, 180 pounds, the Richland, WA, product has the potential to make an immediate impact with the Tigers in 2025, thanks in large part to his ability to move around the entire infield depending on where he may be needed.
With today’s pledge, coach Jay Johnson now has 10 transfers set to join his program this coming season to go along with five other JUCO prospects. While it’s unclear exactly where Dickinson is most likely to land himself on the Tiger depth chart, there’s no doubt that the purple and gold head coach is going to have his hands full this offseason finding the best way to implement his new-look roster.
