Throughout the 2023 season, the best player in college football plays in Baton Rouge for LSU football. At least, thatās how coach Brian Kelly feels, and heās made it abundantly clear that he wants the rest of the country to share the sentiment. On Monday, Kelly went on the Paul Finebaum Show and gave his final sales pitch on quarterback Jayden Daniels for Heisman.
The LSU football passing game has been as good as it gets
Itās been an up and down season for coach Brian Kelly and LSU football in 2023. On the defensive side of the ball, there was little to no resistance against any of their opponents, making many games much harder to win than necessary.
Luckily for the Tigers, they just so happened to have one of, if not the best offenses in the entire country on the other side of the ball. Most notably, the passing game was as close to unstoppable as youāll find.
Heisman candidate quarterback Jayden Daniels led the charge for the group, having accounted for 4,946 total yards and 50 touchdowns through 12 games.
However, he wasnāt the only one making plays for the team. It certainly helps when you have an elite wide receiver duo catching balls on the outside.
Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr combined for a total of 2,625 yards and 29 touchdowns. For context, Nabers finished as the receiving yards leader nationally while Thomas Jr earned the receiving touchdowns title.
In the end, all of that has led to some big-time award possibilities, with Jayden Daniels being named a finalist for the Maxwell, Walter Camp and Davey OāBrien, while Nabers is a finalist for the Biletnikoff.
However, the trophy race receiving by far the most attention has yet to announce its finalists. On Monday, coach Brian Kelly went on national television to give his thoughts on Jayden Daniels for Heisman and it was pure gold.

āVote early and vote often for Jayden Daniels,ā the Tiger head coach joked when asked about his final sales pitch for the star quarterback.
Coach Brian Kelly, particularly in the back half of the 2023 season has been anything but shy about how highly he views quarterback Jayden Daniels. Heās even been on record saying that this might be one of the best players heās ever coached.
āI think you look at his body of work throughout the entire season from the start to finish, and there was no single better player in the country than Jayden Daniels.
āHis numbers speak to that. The players around him got better during the year, the numbers that the wide receivers put up were amazing, and his rushing yards as well. I mean, his ability to run it or throw it, any time we needed to get a play or get out of a tough situation, he made it for us. Just staggering numbers.ā
Heisman Trophy ballots were first distributed on November 27 and the voter deadline is on December 4. From there, the finalists will be announced, and you can watch the ceremony on December 9, live on ESPN.
