Coming off a nerve wracking, yet notably impressive comeback victory over South Carolina in Columbia, SC, LSU transfer wide receiver CJ Daniels had some high praise for his team as they look to continue improving during the 2024 college football season.

Transfer wide receiver CJ Daniels has no shortage of confidence in this year’s LSU football team

It’s been four days since LSU football pulled off their miraculous 0-17 comeback against the South Carolina Gamecocks, and while it technically only counts as one win for the season, it certainly has the potential to mean so much more for this team moving forward.

For starters, it showed fans all around the country that this 2024 roster does indeed have some fight left in it. Just two weeks ago, the Tigers found themselves in a position to start the season with a win over top-25 USC, but struggled to shut things down, and ended up falling by a score of 27-20.

However, it’s amazing just how much a team’s mentality can change in a matter of weeks, and Saturday’s SEC win was a perfect example of it. Immediately falling behind by a score of 0-17, the purple and gold appeared to be fading on both sides of the ball, and Williams-Brice Stadium was all in on their Gamecocks.

Still, there was plenty of football left to be played, and this year’s LSU football team clearly hasn’t given up on itself, even despite the overwhelming doubt coming from fans and media alike.

The Tigers would go on to outscore South Carolina by a total of 36-16 from that moment on, and as it would turn out, the program needed every single one of those points, as the game would come down to a last second missed field goal from Gamecock kicker Alex Herrera, who ended the day two-for-three on attempted kicks.

“We can be as good as we want to be,” LSU transfer wide receiver CJ Daniels began while speaking on the conference win. “I feel like the sky is the limit, and with this team going into an SEC school that was sold out, that’s hard to do. It’s hard to come out with a win, and I think we showed a lot of perseverance, and I think the sky’s the limit for this team.”

It wasn’t a perfect day for the purple and gold. Many college football fans assumed the game to be over early on, and with good reason. Still, for Brian Kelly and his entire coaching staff, the biggest thing that he saw was a continued effort to try and come back, even with the 80,000 fans around them praying on their downfall.

With that, LSU football is officially 2-1 and still has plenty of time to improve before the 2024 storybook ultimately comes to a close. Still, that time is dwindling quickly, and if Daniels’ projection of this team is to come true, plenty of work will need to be done, and fast.

The purple and gold will return to non-conference play this weekend, as Big Ten foe UCLA will travel to Baton Rouge, LA, for a battle in Tiger Stadium this Saturday, September 21, 2024. The game will take place at 2:30 p.m. CST and will be available to watch live on ABC or ESPN+.
