LSU football vs. Alabama is rapidly approaching, and both teams are deep into their preparation for the matchup. This is even more true, considering both teams are coming off a BYE last weekend. Earlier this week, Alabama coach Nick Saban took the time to speak on the Tiger offense, as well as quarterback Jayden Daniels and how good they’ve been all year.

Alabama coach Nick Saban breaks down the LSU football offense

Earlier this week, Alabama coach Nick Saban took the time to speak with the media on their upcoming LSU football matchup, and he had one particular aspect in mind: the Tiger offense.

“I think it starts with their offense,” Saban began on Monday“They’re the No. 1 offensive team in the country, and it starts with their quarterback, Jayden Daniels. I mean, this guy’s a phenomenal player. He’s a dual-threat player; he’s a great passer, makes lots of plays with his feet, fast, not only can scramble to run but can scramble to throw.”

When looking at the offensive side of the ball, coach Brian Kelly’s squad has been about as good as anyone, if not better. In fact, the LSU football offense leads the country in both total yards (552.9 yards per game) and scoring (47.4 points per game).

While quarterback Jayden Daniels has, without a doubt, been a major part of that offensive charge, he also has some excellent pieces around him.

“They’ve got a really good running back in Logan Diggs,” Alabama coach Nick Saban continued. “They’ve got a good tight end in Mason Taylor. (Malik) Nabers and Brian Thomas are really, really good receivers, but they have also other good skill guys to go with them.”

“Their offensive line is big and physical, and they’re able to create great balance on offense.”

If the Tigers hope to have any chance at upsetting the Crimson Tide, it needs to come from the offensive side of the ball. It’s led them through eight games so far and gives them the best chance at winning.

Saban understands just how good quarterback Jayden Daniels is

As mentioned earlier, the offense is good, but it wouldn’t be nearly as successful if it weren’t for quarterback Jayden Daniels. The fifth-year veteran has started every season he’s been in college, whether at Arizona State from 2019-2021 or LSU the past two seasons.

However, he’s by far experiencing his best season in 2023, having accounted for 3,094 total yards and 30 touchdowns.

If you ask Alabama coach Nick Saban, it should come as no surprise that he’s been so successful thus far, as he got an up-close look at him less than a year ago.

“Well, he killed us last year. So, he was a really, really good player last year. He’s a really, really good player now,” The legendary head coach said about the veteran quarterback.

“I think overall they execute their offense to perfection, and it starts with him because he makes the right reads, relative to runs and passes and zone option plays and pass down plays. He’s very good at reading coverages, makes really quick decisions.”

Last season vs. Alabama, quarterback Jayden Daniels had one of his best games of the year, gaining 277 yards on the day to go along with his three touchdowns.

“So, all those things were evident last year,” Saban said. “I think, by the way he played, and I think he’s probably even better now because he has even more experience and knowledge in the offense, and they’ve got really good players around him.”

We can talk about the matchup all we want, but none of it will matter once the clock starts running this Saturday. The game is set to take place in Tuscaloosa at 6:45 p.m. CST and could ultimately play a significant role in the College Football Playoff come the end of November.
