It’s been a class of 2025 recruiting cycle full of incredible highs and devastating lows for coach Brian Kelly and his squad as they now have the potential to receive some fantastic news later this summer. Earlier this week, five-star LSU wide receiver target Kaliq Lockett announced his commitment date, and it appears that the Tigers are right around the top of his list.

LSU football wide receiver target Kaliq Lockett announces summer commitment date

Five-star LSU wide receiver target Kaliq Lockett took his first trip over to Baton Rouge all the way back in March of 2023. From there, things went quiet for some time, but his recruitment has notably taken a bit of an uptick with the purple and gold in recent memory.

Having now taken two separate visits with the Tigers since April, coach Brian Kelly’s team appears to be right in the mix once again, and they couldn’t have chosen a better time to make it happen, with an official commitment date on the not too far horizon.

Yesterday, June 26, the Sachse, TX product announced that he’ll make his final college decision on August 7, 2024, and it appears that he’ll be choosing between Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Texas and Texas A&M.

Officially listed at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Lockett is currently rated as a five-star recruit and the No. 11 player nationally, according to 247Sports.

With impressive length and a 6-foot-7 wingspan, he was already gifted with ideal size for his position of choice, which makes it even better when you realize just how good an athlete he is. As a dual-sport competitor at the high school level, his track and field background has more than benefitted him on the football field, helping lead him to a junior season that included 59 receptions for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns.

For context, known as one of the most explosive players in college football this past season, Malik Nabers averaged 17.6 yards per reception. Lockett averaged 22.0 yards per reception during the 2023 campaign.

The LSU football class of 2025 currently currently ranks as the No. 2 group nationally, as well as No. 1 in the SEC with 12 total commitments. For the time being, four-star TaRon Francis out of New Orleans, LA, rests as the lone wide receiver pledge for the purple and gold, but it shouldn’t take too long for the Tigers to see some additional movement within that position room in the not too distant future.
