Having already landed one five-star recruit in the class of 2025 recruiting cycle, LSU women’s basketball has most recently been named a top-six contender for No. 1 overall recruit and elite point guard Aaliyah Chavez.
LSU women’s basketball named to top-six for five-star point guard Aaliyah Chavez
There’s never been any doubt about LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey and her ability to use the transfer portal, but it’s not uncommon for people to forget just how good of a recruiter she can be.
In the class of 2023, the veteran head coach landed multiple five-star recruits to go along with two other four-stars, as guard Mikaylah Williams and center Aalyah Del Rosario highlighted the No. 1 overall recruiting class.
Now, as we look ahead to the class of 2025, she appears to be back on the recruiting trail in full force, most recently helping the Tiger women’s basketball program to being listed as a top-six contender for five-star point guard Aaliyah Chavez.
Officially listed as a 5-foot-11 point guard out of Monterey High School in Texas, Chavez has quickly found herself listed as one of just three recruits to have received a 98 rating or better, landing her at No. 1 overall in the class of 2025, according to the espnW rankings.
While she’s been dominant from the moment she hit the high school ranks, the five-star recruit is coming off by far her most impressive season yet, recording 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.5 steals per game while shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc in 2023-24.
Including several national powers within her top-six, with Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Texas Tech and UCLA all accompanying the Tigers, this is more than likely setting up to be a tight recruitment all the way up until her eventual commitment.
As we stand today, five-star Bella Hines – a recent teammate of Chavez – remains as the only Tiger commitment for this cycle. With that said, coach Kim Mulkey is putting in some serious work with several top-100 recruits this cycle, so don’t be surprised to see another domino or two fall before things are all said and done.
