One of, if not the best recruit in the state of Louisiana is defensive lineman Dominick McKinley. The high four-star recruit became a Texas A&M commit on September 1st, but elected to not sign during the Early Signing Period. Now, it looks as though a door may be open, with him set to visit Tennessee and LSU in January.
Texas A&M commit Dominick McKinley won’t sign during Early Signing Period
One of the top priority recruits for coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers in the class of 2024 isn’t fully decided yet. After committing to play for Texas A&M in September, defensive lineman Dominick McKinley appears to be having second thoughts.
The Acadiana standout currently ranks as the No. 1 recruit in Louisiana, so it’s only natural that LSU would like to keep him in-state. It certainly helps that he’s a physical freak, standing at 6-foot-6, 280 pounds and could make an immediate impact no matter where he ends up.
Luckily for Tiger fans, despite currently sitting still as a Texas A&M commit, it was reported today by Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports that he won’t be signing anytime soon.
Today was the first day of the Early Signing Period, and while many players elect to use this as an opportunity to make their final decision, McKinley will likely wait until February during the Regular Signing Period.
LSU will look to keep the defensive lineman in-state with an upcoming visit
Now that the high school football season is over, many recruits are given the opportunity to take some time and weigh their options before making a final college decision.
For current Texas A&M commit Dominick McKinley, this could be a very good thing as it pertains to the LSU class of 2024.
Along with news that he would be waiting to sign, it was also announced that he’d be taking upcoming visits to multiple SEC schools. As of right now, his confirmed visits are to Tennessee and LSU in January.
Furthermore, the high four-star defensive lineman could also have interest in Ohio State and Texas, as those were two of his top options ahead of his commitment in September.
So far in the class of 2024, LSU has all 27 of their committed players now signed to play in Baton Rouge. If coach Brian Kelly can manage to keep McKinley in-state, it would be huge for the defensive line and could potentially bring the Tiger class to the top-10 nationally.
