Even despite being just two days into Tiger football fall camp, LSU freshman tight end Trey’Dez Green is already opening some eyes, which could potentially open himself up to some early playing time during the 2024 season.

LSU freshman tight end Trey’Dez Green made an impression on day one of fall camp

When tight end Trey’Dez Green first announced his commitment to coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers, there was little doubt that he’d be a future contributor. If anything, it was just a matter of when.

Entering his freshman season for LSU, the Zachary, LA, product is expected to not only play tight end for the Tigers on the football field, but he’s also already listed on the official men’s basketball roster. In addition to being an elite athlete, his impressive size – standing at 6-foot-7, 245 pounds – should allow him to excel at both sports, and he’s already started to stand out through the early portions of fall football camp.

“Well, he certainly looks the part,” coach Brian Kelly said while speaking with the media following yesterday’s fall camp practice. “I mean, he controls his body really well, has a great deal of confidence, he doesn’t look out of place in any shape or form from a physical standpoint. He’s picked things up very well; for a guy that has not played this game very long, it’s coming too him – I don’t want to say easy – but it has not been a very difficult transition for him.”

“That all bodes well for players that are in their first year. I don’t want to stand here today on day one and say, ‘Hey, he’s gonna play in the first year,’ but my experience has told me that guys that transition quickly, with his kind of physical attributes, that they tend to show real quick. He certainly looks the part.”

While coach Brian Kelly wouldn’t exactly commit to early playing time for the LSU freshman tight end, his overall ability on the football field should at least give him the opportunity as long he’s willing and able to put in the work for it.

Expect Green to compete in a deep Tiger position room that includes veteran Mason Taylor and rising sophomores Mac Markway and Ka’Morreun Pimpton – all of which are more than capable of making an impact during the 2024 season. Regardless of who ends up getting the most consistent playing time is yet to be seen, but there’s little doubt that coach Brian Kelly has truly built himself an elite tight end group heading into year-three of his Baton Rouge tenure.
