The fireworks just keep coming for the LSU football recruiting class of 2025. After landing two commitments already in the last week, the Tigers are now trending for four-star running back James Simon.
LSU football recruiting a significant favorite to land class of 2025 running back
At this point, most college football fans know about the Tigers and their ability to churn out some of the best wide receivers in the country. However, it wasnât always like that, and the purple and gold have actually produced some of the best running backs to ever play the game, and it appears that coach Brian Kelly has hopes of returning to that way of football.
While years one and two under coach Kelly placed a significant emphasis on the passing game, we could begin to see quite a turn in play style over the next couple seasons. Last cycle, LSU football recruiting brought in a pair of four-star ball carriers with Kaleb Jackson and Trey Holly.
Caden Durham is the representative for the current cycle, and while heâs only rated as the No. 6 back in the class, itâs notable that he also happens to be one of the fastest players in the country, regardless of position.
Finally, as we look ahead to the upcoming class of 2025 cycle, coach Brian Kelly already has the top running back in the country committed, but he might not be satisfied yet. As of this morning, LSU is the overwhelming favorite for big-time Louisiana running back James Simon.
In the last 24 hours alone, the Tigers have received three crystal ball predictions for the Shreveport, LA, product from 247Sports insiders Steve Wiltfong, Tom Loy and Bryce Koon.
With things trending in a very positive direction for the Tigers, itâs big for multiple reasons. Not only would coach Brian Kelly be keeping a big-time running back in-state, but heâs also one of the top players nationally, ranking No. 182 overall and No. 11 at his position.
If he does end up announcing pledge to the Tigers, heâll be set to join fellow Calvary Baptist Academy standout, offensive lineman Devin Harper, who committed to the purple and gold yesterday.
Future outlook of the Tiger running back room
With James Simon now looking like an overwhelming favorite to land with the in-state Tigers, its looking like a safe bet that coach Brian Kelly is setting the Tigers up to have one of the best college football running back rooms for years to come.
Barring any potential transfers or decommitments, LSU is looking like it could have a 2025 running back room with five former four-star or better ball carriers.
If the purple and gold manage to land the four-star Calvary Baptist Academy running back, they could have a position group that consists of juniors Kaleb Jackson and Trey Holly, sophomore Caden Durham and freshmen Harlem Berry and James Simon.
Itâs important to note that Simon doesnât appear likely to rush his way into a commitment, and thereâs still plenty of time until pen hits paper for the class of 2025. Still, thereâs no doubt that coach Kelly has the LSU football program recruiting at an elite level. If he and the rest of his coaching staff continue what theyâve been doing the past couple cycles, it shouldnât take long until the Tiger head coach has his championship caliber team.
