At this point, weāre running out of top recruits in the class of 2025 that LSU isnāt at least in contention for. Most recently, the Tigers were included in the top-12 for five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin.
LSU football emerging as a potential candidate for five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin
One of the major spots of concern for LSU football as we look ahead to the 2024 season is defensive line. While thereās undoubtedly potential, the lack of experience isnāt ideal.
However, once we start to look ahead to 2025 and the years following, the Tigers have a chance to turn things around in a major way. Not only did the purple and gold gain a signature from five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley in the class of 2024, but theyāre already trending for some of the best defensive interior players in the 2025 and 2026 cycles.
Most recently, coach Brian Kelly and his squad received some encouraging news, as talented class of 2025 recruit Elijah Griffin included LSU in his list of top-12 schools.
Along with the Tigers, the Savannah, GA, product is gaining attention from some of the very best programs in the country. Among his top early candidates include Alabama, Clemson, Colorado, Duke, Georgia, Florida, Louisville, Miami, Oregon, South Carolina and USC.
Ranking as No. 2 player nationally, according to On3, the only recruit the five-star defensive lineman trails behind is current Tiger commitment quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Officially listed at 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, Griffin not only has the size to be an impact player at the next level, but the production as well. Over three seasons at the varsity level, heās recorded an incredible 248 tackles, 69 tackles for loss and 35.5 sacks for Savannah Christian Prep.
While we donāt yet have a time frame for a final decision, itās an excellent sign that the purple and gold have at least been listed among his top schools. Keep an eye on this one, as defensive line coach Bo Davis can be expected to make a strong push for the elite recruiting target.
