Just like that, the Tigers have landed their first and possibly only running back commitment for the class of 2024. Four-star Texas native Caden Durham originally had a decision date set for August 25. However, that all changed in a big way as he announced heâd be moving his commitment date to August 10 following the âBayou Splashâ event. Now, heâs made it official as Durham has committed to play for LSU football.
LSU football lands a commitment from top running back target Caden Durham
Itâs been a rollercoaster recruitment, but in the end, it was worth it for coach Brian Kelly. Today, class of 2024, four-star running back Caden Durham announced his commitment to play for LSU football.
His college decision date was initially set for August 25, but something switched in him during his visit to Baton Rouge. Following the annual âBayou Splashâ recruiting event, Durham decided to move it up a couple weeks to August 10.
Looking back, following his final decision, this was fantastic news for the Tigers. When he made this announcement, the four-star running back was still in Baton Rouge and likely was feeling strong about the program.Â
In the end, Caden Durham is officially a Tiger. LSU football beat out Oklahoma and Texas A&M for the stud running back in what appeared to be a tight recruitment up to the very end.
Coach Frank Wilsonâs commitment to Durham paid off
Generally, in the world of recruiting, itâs a good idea to have a backup plan or two â or three. However, that wasnât a part of running backs coach Frank Wilsonâs game plan. He had his mind set on one running back in the class of 2024, and that was none other than Caden Durham.
According to 247 Sports, Durham is ranked as the No. 173 player in the country and No. 31 in Texas. Heâs also just the No. 12 running back in the country â a ranking that might raise some eyebrows when watching him play.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound back might not be the biggest in the class, but he possesses an elite all-around skill set. The four-star has incredible speed, recording a 10.25-second 100-yard dash and a 21.12-second 200 time in 2022.
Add in his vision and overall balance, and itâs hard to argue with the talent heâll bring to Baton Rouge.
Furthermore, heâs about as productive a running back as you could hope to see in high school. In 2022, Durham ran the ball 210 times for a jaw-dropping 1,960 yards and 36 touchdowns. Thatâs nearly 10 yards per carry.
LSU football got a good one today with the commitment of four-star running back Caden Durham. Now weâre just left wondering, whoâs next?
