A routine traffic stop in Gilbert, Arizona, quickly turned into a dangerous police pursuit after a suspect allegedly rammed a police cruiser before attempting to flee. The incident ended with a crash and the arrest of two men, one of whom was already wanted in connection with a domestic violence investigation.

According to Gilbert Police, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Friday night after identifying that one of its occupants had outstanding warrants. Rather than complying with officers’ commands, the driver allegedly accelerated away, striking a police vehicle in the process and triggering a short but dramatic chase.

Suspect Allegedly Rammed Police Cruiser

Cruiser Struck During Attempted Stop

Investigators say the confrontation began when officers tried to conduct a lawful traffic stop. During the encounter, the driver allegedly intentionally rammed a Gilbert Police patrol vehicle in an effort to escape.

Fortunately, no officers suffered serious injuries despite the impact. The damaged police cruiser remained at the scene while additional officers joined the pursuit of the fleeing vehicle.

Brief Chase Through Gilbert Streets

Following the collision with the patrol vehicle, the suspects sped away, prompting officers to initiate a pursuit. Authorities tracked the vehicle through Gilbert before the chase came to an abrupt end when the fleeing vehicle crashed.

Police quickly surrounded the crash scene, preventing the suspects from escaping any further.

Crash Ends the Escape Attempt

Vehicle Crashes During Pursuit

The pursuit concluded after the suspects’ vehicle crashed in Gilbert. Police immediately moved in and detained both occupants.

The incident drew a significant law enforcement response as officers secured the crash site and began their investigation into the events leading up to the collision.

Two Men Taken Into Custody

Following the crash, both the driver and passenger were arrested without further major incident.

Authorities later identified the suspects as:

  • Oscar Francisco Enriquez Fimbres – the alleged driver.
  • Javier Ernesto Enriquez Fimbres – the passenger who was reportedly wanted on outstanding warrants connected to another investigation.

Passenger Was Wanted in Domestic Violence Investigation

Existing Warrants Led to Traffic Stop

Police said the initial traffic stop was prompted because Javier Ernesto Enriquez Fimbres had active warrants. Reports indicate those warrants stemmed from a domestic violence-related case, making him the primary reason officers attempted to stop the vehicle.

Instead of surrendering, authorities say the driver chose to flee, escalating the situation into a dangerous pursuit.

Charges Against the Driver

Felony Counts Filed

Following his arrest, Oscar Francisco Enriquez Fimbres was booked into jail on multiple felony allegations.

According to court records and police, he faces charges including:

  • Aggravated assault on a police officer or first responder.
  • Unlawful flight from law enforcement.
  • Felony fleeing after allegedly refusing to stop for officers.

Bond Set at $5,000

A judge ordered Oscar Francisco Enriquez Fimbres held on a $5,000 bond while the criminal case proceeds.

Prosecutors allege his decision to ram the patrol vehicle significantly increased the danger to officers and the public during the pursuit.

Passenger Faces Extensive Criminal Allegations

Multiple Charges Filed

Javier Ernesto Enriquez Fimbres faces a considerably longer list of criminal allegations in addition to the warrants that initially attracted police attention.

Court documents indicate he is accused of:

  • Second-degree burglary.
  • Aggravated assault.
  • Criminal trespass.
  • Harassment.
  • Disorderly conduct.
  • Two felony probation violations.

Higher Bond Ordered

Because of the seriousness and number of allegations against him, a judge set Javier Ernesto Enriquez Fimbres’s bond at $15,000. Authorities say his criminal history and probation status were factors considered during the initial court proceedings.

No Serious Officer Injuries Reported

Despite the patrol vehicle being struck during the attempted stop, Gilbert Police reported that no officers sustained serious injuries.

The successful arrests brought the dangerous encounter to an end without injuries to bystanders, although the incident caused damage to police property and required a substantial law enforcement response.

Investigation Continues

Gilbert Police continue to investigate every aspect of the incident, including the alleged assault on the patrol vehicle, the pursuit, and the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ arrests.

Authorities are expected to present additional evidence during future court proceedings as prosecutors move forward with the felony cases against both men.
