Man repeatedly tried to run over woman holding 1-year-old in McDonald’s drive-thru, police say

A routine trip to a McDonald’s drive-thru escalated into a terrifying sequence of events when a man repeatedly attempted to weaponize his vehicle against a woman who was carrying a one-year-old child in her arms. The local police department intervened following frantic calls from witnesses and victims alike, piecing together a scene that began as a common drive-thru bottleneck but rapidly deteriorated into an alleged case of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

The incident unfolded during peak operating hours at a busy franchise location, turning a standard afternoon rush into a crime scene. According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the confrontation began over a minor dispute regarding the flow of traffic within the tightly constrained drive-thru lane. What should have been a momentary inconvenience, or at most a minor exchange of words, mutated into a high-stakes emergency when one driver decided to use his car to enforce his anger.

The Spark in the Drive-Thru Lane

According to investigators, the victim was a passenger in a vehicle that had stopped near the ordering kiosk. A secondary vehicle, driven by the suspect, pulled up closely behind them. As the line slowed, the suspect began expressing intense agitation—honking his horn continuously and shouting profanities out of his window.

Hoping to de-escalate the tension or simply seeking space away from the aggressive behavior, the woman stepped out of her vehicle. She was holding a one-year-old infant firmly against her chest. Eyewitnesses stated she intended to ask the driver to back up slightly or to find out why he was acting so aggressively toward her family.

However, her departure from the car did not calm the situation. Instead, it appeared to provoke the suspect further. Police allege that the man shifted his vehicle into drive, pressed the accelerator, and steered directly toward the woman and the baby.

A Repeated Path of Violence

The true horror of the incident lies in the deliberate and repeated nature of the attacks. As the suspect advanced, the woman was forced to leap out of the path of the oncoming car, shielding the infant with her body. The vehicle missed her by mere inches, slamming into the open door of the car she had just exited.

Rather than stopping after the initial collision, the suspect threw his vehicle into reverse, backed up several yards, and aligned his wheels with the victim once more. Witnesses standing near the restaurant’s pickup window watched in disbelief as the driver accelerated a second time.

The woman, desperate to protect the young child, scrambled toward a nearby concrete curb and a landscaped median, using the restaurant’s physical infrastructure as a makeshift barrier. The vehicle surged forward again, tires screeching across the asphalt, striking the curb exactly where the woman had been standing a split second prior. The impact caused significant front-end damage to the suspect’s car and left deep gouges in the concrete, but the physical barrier successfully prevented the vehicle from making direct contact with the victims.

Inside the restaurant, employees and customers scrambled to safety, unsure if the vehicle would crash through the glass exterior of the building. Several workers immediately dialed 911, providing dispatchers with a rolling description of the vehicle, its license plate, and the unfolding chaos outside.

Police Intervention and Arrest

Responding officers arrived within minutes of the initial emergency calls. By the time police cruisers pulled into the parking lot with lights and sirens activated, the suspect had backed up his vehicle once more and was attempting to navigate around the blocked lane to flee the property.

Officers blocked the exit routes of the parking lot, effectively pinning the suspect’s damaged vehicle against the outer perimeter of the drive-thru lane. The driver initially refused to comply with verbal commands to turn off the engine and step out of the vehicle. Fearing further attempts to ram police cruisers or pedestrians, officers approached the car with weapons drawn, eventually extracting the driver and placing him under arrest without further injury to bystanders.

The suspect was taken into custody on the scene and transported to the local county jail. Investigators spent several hours processing the scene, measuring tire tracks, analyzing the damage to both vehicles and the restaurant structure, and recovering digital evidence.

The Evidence and Charges

A crucial element of the investigation involves the digital footprint left by the incident. The McDonald’s location was equipped with high-definition surveillance cameras tracking the drive-thru lanes from multiple angles. Investigators reviewed the footage, which reportedly confirms the sequential nature of the attacks, showing the suspect backing up and intentionally driving toward the pedestrian victim multiple times.

Furthermore, several customers waiting in the drive-thru line captured portions of the assault on their smartphones. These videos, which quickly circulated among local law enforcement, provided clear audio of the engine revving and the screams of onlookers, corroborating the timeline established by the victim and the store employees.

Following a thorough review of the digital evidence and initial interviews, the District Attorney’s office approved a robust list of criminal charges against the driver. The suspect faces multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony child endangerment, and reckless driving. Because a vehicle can be classified as a deadly weapon when used intentionally to cause harm or death, the severity of the charges carries significant mandatory prison time if a conviction is secured.

Aftermath and Community Shock

Paramedics arrived on the scene alongside law enforcement to evaluate the victims. Remarkably, despite the terrifying nature of the encounter and the close proximity of the moving vehicle, neither the woman nor the one-year-old child sustained severe physical injuries. The mother suffered minor abrasions and bruising from her frantic scrambles to avoid the vehicle, while the infant was uninjured but deeply shaken by the noise and chaos. Both were treated at the scene and released to family members.

The psychological impact of the event, however, remains a central concern for the family. Relatives who spoke with local media outlets expressed profound shock that an everyday chore like ordering fast food could transform into a life-threatening ordeal.

The incident has sparked broader conversations within the community regarding the escalation of road rage and public aggression. Local police officials issued a statement commending the swift actions of the McDonald’s staff and the witnesses who immediately called for help, noting that their detailed descriptions were instrumental in preventing the suspect from escaping into the surrounding neighborhood.

As the suspect awaits his initial arraignment hearing behind bars, the investigation remains open. Authorities are urging any additional witnesses who may have left the scene prior to police arrival to come forward with any extra video footage or statements to ensure a complete record is presented at trial.
