LSU football got through Arkansas over the weekend, so it’s time to turn our attention to Ole Miss. Vegas hasn’t quite figured out what to do with the Tigers early in the season. In week three, they weren’t favored enough, while the spread was far too big in week four. Now, we’ll have to wait and see how things go in week five as coach Brian Kelly’s squad opens as a narrow favorite over the Rebels in 2023.

LSU football opens as narrow favorite ahead of matchup vs. Ole Miss

One of the most confusing teams in the country is LSU football. In week one, they fell in dramatic fashion to Florida State. Then, after two dominant wins in a row, the Tigers barely squeaked out a win vs. rival Arkansas thanks to a last-second Damian Ramos field goal.

Because of this, coach Brian Kelly’s squad hasn’t seen much movement in their rankings since week one. Despite starting the season top five, LSU football has ranked between 12 and 14 from week two until now.

Ole Miss, on the other hand, has seen some decent movement, getting up to No. 15 before its loss to Alabama this past weekend.

Now, the Rebels sit at No. 20 in the country and are in danger of dropping out of the top 25 with a second loss. The question is, will that second loss come against LSU football?

According to Vegas Insider, the Tigers are currently a narrow favorite, with the spread sitting at -2.5. Furthermore, the over/under is 62.5, leading to a possibly higher-scoring matchup.

Initially, this feels about right. LSU football is likely the better team between the two, but home-field advantage for Ole Miss could prove to be huge for the Rebels.

The 2023 matchup of LSU football vs. Ole Miss kicks off this Saturday at 5:00 p.m. CST at Vaught Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, MS.
