The LSU football defense has quite the task in front of them this evening. One of the best players in the country is Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis. Many have him as a Heisman candidate, and it would speak wonders if the Tigers can slow him down. Yesterday, coach Brian Kelly sat down with SEC Nation and discussed what it would take to slow him down in week one.

A dual-threat quarterback is one of the most difficult things to stop in college football. If you add a talented arm to the equation, it becomes nearly impossible.

For the LSU football defense, this could be a thing of concern ahead of the Tigers’ week one matchup versus Florida State. Quarterback Jordan Travis is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country, which could lead to some issues.

However, coach Brian Kelly has a plan of action for stopping him, and it might not be the most expected answer. While sitting down with SEC Nation, Kelly broke down the matchup and how he thinks the LSU football run defense could be critical in slowing him down.

“Well, I think, any time you play an outstanding quarterback, and especially a dual-threat quarterback, it’s trying to get some predictability. If it’s unpredictable in terms of what he’s going to do, they kind of control everything that happens. So, trying to make him one-dimensional,” Kelly said regarding quarterback Jordan Travis. “Let’s do a really good job against the run, so it becomes a little bit more predictable when they’re gonna pass. I think that that’s where you start. They’ve got an outstanding running game, and we’ve got to make it hard for them to run the football.”

“He’s an outstanding quarterback. He’s elusive, he can get on the edge, he can throw the ball down the field deep. So, I think against any really good quarterback, especially those that can make things happen on the edge, you’ve got to try to take away something. And, obviously, it starts with – for us – stopping the run game.”

Lucky for the Tiger defense, they’ve been working on this sort of thing all offseason. LSU football quarterback Jayden Daniels also happens to be one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country.

With the kind of preparation and planning Brian Kelly and his team have done this fall, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be able to at least slow down quarterback Jordan Travis and the Florida State offense. Now, it’s just a matter of making it happen on the field.
