Following the Tigers’ embarrassing outcome in week one, coach Brian Kelly had some serious work to do. While he hasn’t gotten there yet, college football respect is slowly returning to Baton Rouge, and it’s beginning to show up in Vegas. Heading into Saturday, LSU football opens as a significant favorite vs. the conference rival Arkansas Razorbacks in 2023.

While college football outcomes are never guaranteed, few are more in touch with the sport than the Vegas betting market. Now that week three has come and gone, all eyes have shifted to week four and what the betting market thinks about most college football teams.

Last week, the odds were slightly off, as Vegas viewed LSU football as a 9.5-point favorite with an over/under of 53.5 total points. The final score ended up being 41-14, so while the over/under was pretty accurate, the Tigers blew their win projection out of the water.

Now, Vegas appears to be gaining respect for the 2023 Tigers, as LSU football opens as 17-point favorites, according to Vegas Insider. Furthermore, the over/under currently rests at 55, so they think it will be a similarly high-scoring game as this past weekend.

Initially, it’s hard not to feel like this is a generous spread for LSU football. The Tigers had a dominating win last week, while Arkansas dropped a heartbreaker to BYU at home. With a 17-point spread, Vegas is likely reacting to last week’s results a bit too excessively.

However, when looking at history, a close game between these two teams wouldn’t surprise in the slightest. Last year, the outcome went in Brian Kelly’s favor, but it wasn’t a convincing win per se, as the Tigers won 13-10. In the last five meetings between the schools, only one game has been decided by more than seven points.

The 2023 edition of LSU football vs. Arkansas kicks off this weekend at 6:00 p.m. CST in Baton Rouge. The game will be available to watch live on ESPN.
