For the second time in his college career, former LSU football cornerback Denver Harris has announced his new transfer destination. As we look ahead to the 2024 season, Harris will make his way to UTSA for his junior campaign.
Former LSU football cornerback names UTSA as his 2024 transfer destination
It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster of a career for former five-star cornerback Denver Harris. After beginning his freshman season with Texas A&M, off-field issues kept him sidelined for a bulk of the year, holding him to just 14 tackles and three passes defended.
In turn, he elected for the transfer portal, and coach Brian Kelly was willing to take a chance on the high-upside Texas product. Unfortunately, this didn’t exactly work out as the veteran coach anticipated.
Despite being given an opportunity to start with the Tigers, off-field issues once again landed him on the sideline. In just four appearances, the talented sophomore totaled seven tackles and two passes defended.
Now, as we fast forward to present day, the former LSU football cornerback will now make his way to a third school in as many seasons, committing to UTSA, according to a report by JJ Perez of On3.
Harris was a a five-star recruit coming out of high school, ranking No. 45 nationally in the class of 2022. Unfortunately for him, his lack of production has dropped his stock significantly over the past two seasons, as 247Sports has him rated as a four-star transfer and the No. 140 player nationally.
2024 outlook for the new addition Roadrunner
After two stops in the SEC, Denver Harris will now take a drop in competition, making his way to the American Athletic Conference, as a part of the UTSA football program.
While it’s yet to be seen how this will pan out for the talented cornerback, there’s little doubt that it has the potential to be a big-time pickup for head coach Jeff Traylor.
Coming off a third nine-win season in a row, Traylor has proven himself as a head coach, and will likely look to keep things trending in a positive direction. Unfortunately, the transfer portal isn’t exactly making things easy for him.
After losing four cornerbacks to the portal this offseason (junior Kam Alexander, senior Dywan Griffin, senior Xavier Spencer and senior Syrus Dumas), Harris is looking like the only current new addition to the 2024 position group.
While as a whole, that doesn’t bode well for the Roadrunner program, it just makes today’s announcement all the better. At its best, it could prove to be a game changing move for all parties involved. If Harris can find a way to clean things up off the field, expect to see plenty of the third-year cornerback as UTSA looks to compete in a challenging AAC in 2024.
