One of the most anticipated additions of the offseason was former five-starĀ cornerback Denver Harris. After an up-and-down freshman season with Texas A&M, coach Brian Kelly decided to take a chance on him out of the transfer portal. After struggling to scratch the starting lineup in fall camp, he could finally get an opportunity to see the field for LSU football in week two versus Grambling State.
Cornerback Denver Harris listed as āavailableā heading into week two
Former transfer portal cornerback Denver Harris came into the LSU football program with big expectations. After all, the former five-star has immense potential and likely has some of the best pure ability in the defensive back room.
Furthermore,Ā according to 247 Sports, he was listed as the No. 2 overall transferĀ in the class of 2023, just behind Coloradoās Travis Hunter.
However, his production is far from reaching the level of expectations that were placed on him. In week one, Harris didnāt see game time. This was largely unsurprising, as word out of fall camp was that he spent most of his time with the third-string group.
However, sometimes, in college football, all you need is a chance. For cornerback Denver Harris, that may be coming up very soon.
While the former transfer portal pickup is unlikely to start, it recently came out that he would be āavailable.ā Does that mean heās for sure going to see the field? No. However, if heās going to be given a chance to show what heās capable of, this could be the weekend to do it.
LSU football is set to face Grambling State in week two this weekend, which could provide plenty of opportunity to see some of the younger bench players on the field. We saw this last season when the Tigers took on Southern University. In that game alone,Ā 29 players recorded at least one tackle.
From what it sounds like, mentality and ability to understand the defense is one of the big reasons Harris has struggled to find consistency with LSU football. However, thereās little doubt that he has the potential to be one of the best players on the team.
With the chance that the former transfer portal corner is given his opportunity this weekend, it could be significant for the program. If he makes an impact and shows he can do it consistently, he has the talent to be a game-changer on the defensive side of the ball. Now, all he has to do is show he can be consistent on and off the field.
