With officially less than one full year remaining until the 2025 national signing day, the class of 2025 is now the star of the show in the world of football recruiting. In turn, several of the top players in the country are beginning to narrow down their lists of top choices. For priority LSU football recruiting target Cobey Sellers, he’s continuing to trend toward the purple and gold, most recently including coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers in his top-six list.
Tigers named to top-six for priority LSU football recruiting target
Coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers first offered priority LSU football recruiting target Cobey Sellers in late-June of 2023. While there was likely early interest following the initial offer, it appears that newly hired secondary coach Corey Raymond has been something of a difference maker in his recruitment.
“LSU, that’s home. Me and coach Raymond talk every day basically. It’s small talk, checking on me and the family, but that’s big for me,” the Pearland, TX, product said to On3 last week.
Now, it appears that his relationship with the veteran assistant coach has continued to leave an impression, as the four-star cornerback recently included LSU as one of his top-six schools.
Rated as a four-star cornerback, and the No. 142 player nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite, Cobey Sellers has an opportunity to see his recruitment surge in a major way, most recently being offered by the reigning national champion Michigan Wolverines.
Along with the Tigers, his top schools include elite national programs Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M.
For the time being, four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine and four-star linebacker Keylan Moses are the lone defensive commitments in the Tiger class of 2025. If coach Brian Kelly and LSU find a way to bring in the top-200 recruit, it would be big in continuing to rebuild a recently struggling purple and gold defensive back room.
