Having assembled what looked like the dream defensive coaching staff just last offseason, LSU football head coach Brian Kelly will now look to fill what could be a fairly significant hole, as defensive line coach Bo Davis is now expected to join the New Orleans Saints coaching staff.
LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis expected to join Kellen Moore’s coaching staff with the New Orleans Saints
Now two years removed from one of the worst defensive seasons we’ve seen from LSU in recent memory, the Tigers will officially begin searching for yet another defensive line coach, as Bo Davis is expected to make the jump to the New Orleans Saints just one year into his tenure with the purple and gold.
For head coach Brian Kelly, this one likely hurts a little more than most. Not only is Davis one of the top recruiters on his entire coaching staff, but being that they made him one of the highest paid assistants in college football, the Tigers likely expected to be set at defensive line for at least more than just one season.
Unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be, and now, LSU football will have their hands full with the task of finding yet another defensive line coach with less than a full offseason to work.
Luckily for the Tigers, it’s not all bad news. Edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples has experience working with the defensive line position, having held the title of defensive line coach at Arkansas State, Tulane and Indiana, as recently as the 2021 season.
Because of that added experience, head coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers aren’t exactly in desperate need of an immediate new defensive line coach. Instead, there’s a level of flexibility to the situation, and Kelly can take his time while finding someone who would mesh best with the remainder of the purple and gold defensive coaching staff.
For now, the program will just have to make do with what they currently have within the program. Until Kelly finds his guy, expect defensive coordinator Blake Baker, edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples, secondary coach Corey Raymond and safeties coach Jake Olsen to step up on the recruiting side of things as we move into the slightly unexpected coaching search.
