She’s back and the rest of the country better watch out. LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese hasn’t seen the floor since November 14 against Kent State, but according to coach Kim Mulkey, the wait is finally over. As of today, the veteran forward will reportedly play in tomorrow’s game against Virginia Tech.
LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese will return for Virginia Tech
“Angel’s back!”
That’s how coach Kim Mulkey opened up her Wednesday press conference, giving the people what they’ve been desperately waiting to hear since mid-November.
“Angel is back and we are happy, happy, happy,” Mulkey said about the LSU women’s basketball star returning. “She’s happy, happy, happy. She’s available to play Thursday!”
Reese was one of the biggest parts of the Tiger squad in 2022 that would go on to win the national championship. Naturally, with her return in 2023, many expected to see plenty of the same this season. However, after seeing an average of 22.25 minutes per game through the first four, we have yet to see her on the court for the last four.
Luckily for Tiger fans around the world, the wait is finally over. Tomorrow, the LSU women’s basketball star will take the court against a familiar foe in Virginia Tech.
The two squads last faced off in the Final Four of last season, with coach Kim Mulkey and her squad coming out on top 79-72. This season, the Hokies remain as one of the top teams in the country, ranking No. 9 nationally, just two slots behind the Tigers.
Coach Kim Mulkey expecting an easy transition
Generally, when introducing players back into a roster, transitions can be expected. However, when it comes to Angel Reese, it wouldn’t be surprising to see immediate success.
After all, she’s been practicing with the team, and has only been away since November 14, right around half a month.
“I’ve coached Angel (Reese) for a year. Angel (Reese) knows our system,” coach Mulkey said when asked about the transition period of getting her back in the swing of things. “Her playing with (Aneesah) Morrow a little bit more will take place as we head down the season.
“She’s played with her in practice and things like that, so them being on the floor together should be really, really good. It may not be smooth, but it should be really good because Morrow’s playing really good basketball right now.”
Tiger fans won’t have to wait long to see how the transition ultimately goes. With a top-10 battle coming up in a bit over 24 hours from now, we’ll soon find out how well the team gels with LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese back in the mix.
