Coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers are deep into their preparation for the Gators. In tomorrow’s LSU football vs. Florida matchup, here are three players the purple and gold will likely be watching on defense, including Princely Umanmielen, Jason Marshall Jr and Tyreak Sapp.
LSU football vs. Florida: Three players to know on the Gator defense
Junior EDGE Princely Umanmielen
It’s always dangerous when an edge rusher comes off his best game of the season. For Florida, edge rusher Princely Umanmielen is doing just that after turning in an impressive 2.5 sack performance in last week’s loss to Arkansas.
The Gator defense allowed 39 points on the day, but it wasn’t due to a solid effort by the junior.
Standing at 6-foot-5, 255 pounds with solid bend and speed, the fourth-year veteran is having one of the best seasons of his career.
Heading into Saturday, especially with LSU football quarterback Jayden Daniels returning from injury, it will be critical for the offensive tackles to hold Umanmielen in check Saturday evening.
Junior CB Jason Marshall Jr
Very few defenders, or defenses for that matter, have been able to slow down the LSU football passing offense. Heading into Saturday, it’s doubtful that will change in the slightest.
However, if the Gators have any hope of doing so, it could and should begin with cornerback Jason Marshall Jr.
On the year, Marshall leads the Florida defense in passes defended with six. While he doesn’t yet have any interceptions, he’s more than capable. Standing at 6-foot, 200 pounds, he has NFL size and can keep up with some of the fastest wide receivers in college football.
While the Tigers are unlikely to hesitate when throwing the ball in any particular direction, it will be notable to keep an eye out for No. 3 in white.
Redshirt sophomore DT Tyreak Sapp
He’s baaaaack. After missing last week to an injury, star sophomore defensive tackle Tyreak Sapp is officially off the injury report heading into Saturday.
For the Gators, this is excellent news. For the LSU football interior offensive line, not so much.
Despite having only played in seven games this season, the stud 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive tackle has put up solid numbers, including two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Notably, he and fellow defensive tackle Cam Jackson are returning from injury, so the Tiger offense will have its hands full around the interior.
LSU football vs. Florida will occur this Saturday, November 11, at 6:30 p.m. CST in Tiger Stadium. The game will be available to watch live from home on ESPN.
